You may wonder, why a purple platypus?  Why a platypus at all?  Well, I’ve always loved purple, though I have no real reason to love it.  Do we really need to have a reason for our preferences?  As for the platypus … it is one ridiculous creature, isn’t it?  Half duck, half beaver, half poisonous reptile.  You have to wonder, when God put this thing together, what was He smoking, and where can I score some for myself?  I take the platypus as proof that God loves a good joke as much as the next guy, and whenever I’m feeling depressed or saddened or overwhelmed by the pressures in my life, I ponder the platypus.  That always brings me at least a smile, and usually a chuckle, and from there, it’s a short step to laughing in spite of my troubles.  Therefore, the platypus is my mascot.  You might even say it’s the symbol of my personal faith and belief.  It certainly helps me not be afraid to look ridiculous — after all, the platypus doesn’t care how ridiculous it looks, so why should I?
